Discovery Classes

Join us as we engage young scientists to discover nature’s diversity and take care of our earth wisely.

How do birds fly?
Why do squirrels hibernate?
Why do flowers have patterns?

Learn about these questions and more at Coyote Point Museum’s NEW Discovery Classes!

Coyote Point Museum’s new Discovery Classes are designed for youth Pre-K – 4th grades, and incorporate live animals, outdoor experiences, art and science activities all in one engaging program. We provide opportunities for students to observe the natural world, explore and experiment with how things work, and discover answers to their own questions.

Our program philosophy is unique because of the experiential-based activities and projects, small class sizes which provide a more personal experience, and professional educators who create an inspirational learning environment.

The Discovery Classes are progressive and students registering for multiple sessions will build on previous lessons and learn something new each time. Discovery classes are for one hour, one day a week for five weeks. Pre-registration is required.

Please note: Due to the popularity of our camps this summer and our small class sizes, we expect the Discovery Classes to fill up quickly, so register early!

Program Groups

The following are program groups for Sessions A and B.
Sessions C - F are subject to change.

Growing Scientists (PreK & Caregivers)
A new program for pre-schoolers and their caregivers. Growing Scientists begin learning about their environment through hands-on, interactive, age-appropriate activities. This class is not just for the pre-schooler. Educators will provide information and tools for caregivers to continue the experience outside the class. Each class will incorporate art, outdoor exploration, live animals, and science activities.
Thursdays 10:15am-11:15am

Water Wonders (Kindergarten)
Without water, life on earth could not exist. Students discover the diversity of aquatic habitats, the plants and animals that live in them, and what makes water vital to our survival. Exploration of our own San Francisco Bay, water experiments, and aquatic art will be our basis for exploring the wonders of water.
Thursdays 2:15pm-3:15pm or Saturdays 10:15am-11:15am

Amazing Adaptations (1st & 2nd Grade)
Night vision, warning colors, and carnivorous plants are examples of some of nature’s amazing adaptations. Come study live animals, explore garden habitats, and discover the unique adaptations that help plants and animals survive.
Thursdays 3:45pm-4:45pm or Saturdays 11:45am-12:45pm

Eco-Quest (3rd & 4th Grade)
This hands-on class using the scientific method, takes young scientists out into the field to make their own observations, formulate questions, plan an investigation, collect data, and present their results. Museum educators guide students through their exploration, experimentation, and presentation.
